Doula in Action, Sara Krafft from Cocoon Birth Doulas at Mountain Midwifery Center

When I started this blog series, doulas in action, I was excited to share just what a doula does for the mother and family during birth;  my goal has always been to increase awareness about using a doula's services.   The images here show just how much help a doula can give a family during the time of delivery.  Here, you can watch Sara of Cocoon Birth and Colorado Inspired Birth, support this mama during her labor at our local birth center in Denver, Mountain Midwifery Center. The thing that I find most helpful about doulas, is that they are with you through your whole labor.  That means, every contraction, at home and in the place of birthing.  This is awesome because while nurses, OBs and midwives are there to keep you and baby safe, the doula is there for pure support. Here is what the mama, Christina, had to say about Sara.  "Sara did an amazing job as our doula! She helped me work through some intense contractions by suggesting different labor positions which helped my labor move along. She was a calm presence by my side and very attentive to what I needed. Sara has continued to be a support and friend for our family during a very hectic time as our baby has had some special health concerns." During each contraction Sara was right with mom, applying double hip squeezes which help with back labor pains (this baby was posterior), she also gave support in her quiet encouraging words.   It seemed to me that Sara knew exactly what to do for this mama, at any given moment, and she did it all with a smile on her face.   This family was welcoming their second daughter, so while dad helped with their toddler, Sara was there to support mom.  I asked Sara about her doula services and she said; "My work is my passion and purpose, I am honored to serve all the families I connect with."
