Baby Lumen's Birth, Birth Photography and Cord Burning, Part #2
Part #2 of Lumen's birth story, to check out part one, click here.
After baby Lumen's peaceful transition into this world, Cassie got out of the tub and laid down on the bed to snuggle and nurse her new baby. The midwives checked Cassie and Lumen and left them to bond with Peter. I took a few minutes to snap some tender moments with the three of them when Cassie said ones of the coolest things to me. She said 'I could feel her kicking my uterus, trying to work her way out of me.' Both Peter and I were in awe of that, how amazing must that be!
Cassie and Peter's family and support system each took the time to meet Lumen, I snapped photos, the midwives checked mama and left the cord attached to Lumen for a few hours before they did a cord burning ceremony to remove it. The cord burning ceremony was beautiful and very peaceful, like nothing I'd ever seen before. One of the midwives who has seen several said that usually the ceremony calms the baby, even if they were previously fussy. Click to see more images of the cord burning ceremony at their home in Broomfield and some of the first few hours of Cassie's babymoon at home.
Their dog was super chill the whole time, he came in and laid on his doggy bed after mama gave birth, but quickly left after realizing the room was the center of all attention.
Cord burning ceremony was awesome, and Lumen loved to watch the light.
After the cord burning, the midwives took their time doing a thorough well-baby check.
I have reflexes!
