In 2019, I spent an entire day with Hannah at a birth. We both supported our client in her homebirth, myself as her photographer and doula and Hannah as her midwife. Little did I know then, that I’d be attending Hannah’s own birth in December of 2019!

There is something special about attending the birth of a birth worker and midwife, but this birth was even more special. Hannah’s mom, Kim, a midwife and author, was the midwife for her birth. She had helped all of her grandchildren into this world. I couldn’t imagine a much more amazing gift as a grandparent than to be a part of your children’s birth.

Hannah listened to her body and rode the waves of contractions with her husband by her side. Her daughter came in to check on her, before going out with her aunt to wait until it was nearly time to push.

When it was time, Hannah’s children came into the room and watched as their mother, grandmother and dad helped to catch their newest sibling. Surprise gender baby BOY was born a few minutes later, and the room was filled with so much love, support and safety. It was beautiful!
